Education systems across the world are rapidly evolving, and governments are increasingly recognising that the future of learning goes beyond traditional classrooms.

Modern schools are now being designed as innovation hubs — spaces that promote creativity, collaboration, technology integration, and community engagement.

In line with this global vision, Julius Ilori, Founder of Learners Corner led a strategic knowledge exchange delegation to Tampere, Finland, with members of the Lagos State Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools (SCRPS).

The international study visit was successfully coordinated and managed by Learners Corner in partnership with Learning Scoop Finland, a leading Finnish education organisation focused on innovative learning environments and school development.

The purpose of the engagement was to expose key education stakeholders from Lagos State to global best practices in school rehabilitation, educational technology, sustainable learning infrastructure, and modern approaches to public school transformation.

As Founder of Learners Corner and lead coordinator of the delegation, Julius worked closely with both Nigerian and Finnish stakeholders to ensure the visit delivered practical insights that can contribute to the future of public education in Lagos State.

“Finland is globally recognized for operating one of the world’s most innovative education systems. However, beyond academic performance, one of the most remarkable lessons from the visit was how Finnish schools are intentionally designed as community-centered spaces that support collaboration, creativity, wellbeing, and lifelong learning,” Julius explained.

He added that, “during the engagement in Tampere, the delegation explored innovative approaches to classroom design, smart learning environments, school sustainability systems, digital learning integration, and flexible infrastructure planning.

“The experience highlighted how school rehabilitation is not simply about renovating physical structures, but about creating environments that improve learning outcomes and student development.”

The delegation also gained insights into how technology and infrastructure can work together to improve teacher effectiveness, student engagement, and long-term operational sustainability within public education systems.

Julius stated that leading the delegation reflects a broader commitment to building global partnerships that can accelerate educational transformation in Nigeria and across Africa. Through Learners Corner, “we continue to create platforms that connect government institutions, educators, and young leaders with international opportunities, innovative ideas, and future-focused solutions.”

The Lagos State Special Committee on Rehabilitation of Public Schools has continued to make significant contributions toward improving school infrastructure across the state.

This Finland engagement further strengthened conversations around how Lagos can adopt more modern and sustainable approaches to educational development.
