‘Senate Committee did not probe or indict Wunti’, says advocacy group

A civic advocacy group, Agenda for Positive Change, has clarified that Dr. Bala Wunti, was neither probed nor indicted by any Senate committee in relation to the ongoing ₦210 trillion controversy.

In a statement issued on Friday, the group, led by Titus Danladi-Biu, said there is no record of any formal investigation, indictment, or adverse finding against Dr. Wunti by the Senate, anti-corruption agencies, or any legitimate investigative body concerning the alleged missing funds.

The group noted that Dr. Wunti has had a distinguished career spanning nearly 35 years in Nigeria’s petroleum industry. He previously served as Chief Investment Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS), where he contributed to strengthening joint venture partnerships, improving production efficiency, and enhancing investor confidence in the sector.

He later served as NNPC’s Chief Group Corporate Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer before his retirement in 2025.

The statement emphasized that Dr. Wunti’s professional record remains unblemished by any credible corruption allegation linked to the ₦210 trillion matter.

“Public accountability must remain rooted in facts, due process, and credible investigation, not in distortion, sensationalism, or politically motivated fiction,” the statement added.
The group urged Nigerians to reject what it called desperate efforts by political actors to manipulate public perception through falsehoods and unsubstantiated accusations.
“For the avoidance of doubt, Dr. Bala Wunti remains an accomplished oil and gas reformer, a respected industry leader, and a patriotic professional who has not been indicted in any ₦210 trillion scandal. Attempts to portray him otherwise are false, malicious, and should be disregarded,” the statement concluded.

Agenda for Positive Change urged the public to rely on verified facts and due process rather than unconfirmed claims circulating in the media and on social platforms.

The group described Dr. Wunti as a seasoned technocrat who has made significant contributions to Nigeria’s oil and gas sector through strategic reforms and operational improvements.
