ABUJA – Leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State have unanimously adopted Adetomiwa Adetilewa as the party’s consensus candidate for the House of Representatives seat representing Ijebu Central Federal Constituency ahead of the 2027 general election, with the aspirant declaring that ‘there is no victor and no vanquished’ in the process.
The consensus move is expected to strengthen the APC’s internal cohesion in Ijebu Central and avert a potentially divisive contest among aspirants as early political alignments begin to take shape ahead of 2027.
The decision followed a meeting of party leaders and stakeholders led by Oluneye Okuboyejo, Chairman of the APC-aligned Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Ogun State, who formally presented Adetilewa to party members after the consensus was reached.
Also present at the meeting was Arowolo Adebola, a senior APC stakeholder in Ogun East, alongside other party leaders.
Party leaders said the adoption reflected confidence in Adetilewa’s leadership qualities, political experience and commitment to grassroots development across the constituency.
Adetilewa said, “This is a victory for all of us. In this consensus option by our party members, there is no victor and no vanquished, we are all winners.
“I sincerely invite my brothers and sisters who aspired for this same position to join hands with me as we work together for the progress of our constituency and our great party. I assure everyone that I will carry all stakeholders and party leaders along in this journey.”
He also praised Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as exemplary leadership and commitment to national development.
Adetilewa similarly thanked Dapo Abiodun, APC leaders, members and supporters across Ogun State for their support and confidence in his aspiration.
“I will continue to listen to the wise counsel of our leaders, engage our people, and work tirelessly to justify the trust placed in me. Together, we will achieve greater progress for our constituency and our party,” he said.
He also commended other aspirants who showed interest in the contest, describing them as critical stakeholders in the unity and growth of the APC in Ogun State.
