Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River
I write as a concerned member of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), committed to consolidating the gains recorded over the past three years, particularly in Cross River State.
Recent comments by Ben Ayade regarding events before and during the 2022 APC presidential primary, which produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as candidate, have generated public discussion and differing opinions among party members and observers.
Ayade was among the aspirants in that contest, and like many political processes, participants and stakeholders have continued to reflect on the experience and its outcomes from different perspectives.
In the 2023 general elections, Tinubu won the presidency nationally, while outcomes varied across states, including Cross River.
Subsequently, Ayade contested for the Senate seat in Cross River North but was not elected, with Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe emerging victorious, reflecting the decision of voters in the constituency.
In public discourse following these events, Ayade has expressed views regarding the roles of political actors, including Bassey Otu and Godswill Akpabio. However, political analysts often note that electoral outcomes can be influenced by a wide range of factors, including party dynamics, voter preferences, and broader political trends.
As political activities evolve, stakeholders continue to emphasise the importance of reflection, engagement, and constructive dialogue in strengthening democratic processes and party cohesion.
Governor Otu, who currently leads Cross River State, is also continuing to implement his administration’s policies and programmes as part of ongoing governance in the state.
Ultimately, developments within the political space underscore the need for continuous engagement, responsibility, and collaboration among leaders and stakeholders.
