The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Mr. Roland Ewubare, has commended the Senate for supporting the Bill for an Act to make provisions for the compulsory treatment and care for victims of gunshots and other matters connected therewith.

NHRC’s, Director Public Affairs and Communications, Muhammad Nasir Ladan, in a statement in Abuja said, “Mr. Ewubare noted that the action of the Senate was in line with the position of the Commission, on the death of a veteran journalist, Bayo Ohu, who was denied medical attention due to lack of police report.”

According to the statement, “the Commission condemned the circumstances of Ohu’s death and maintained that it was an infringement on the right to life of any victim of gunshot or accident to be refused treatment or be subjected to inhuman and degrading treatment by any person or authority”.
