The National Association of Nigerian Students in Diaspora has congratulated Ambassador Sola Enikanolaiye on his appointment as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs.
The group described the appointment as timely and deserving, expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements and improve support for Nigerians abroad.
In a statement signed by its leader, Comrade Juwon Fayomi, on Friday, NANS Diaspora said Enikanolaiye’s emergence reflected the importance of assigning capable hands to strategic national offices.
Fayomi noted that the ambassador’s appointment was “a clear example of placing a round peg in a round hole.”
He said Enikanolaiye’s extensive diplomatic background, including service as Nigeria’s ambassador to several foreign missions and as Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs, positioned him strongly for the role.
According to the student body, his wealth of experience and understanding of international relations would enhance Nigeria’s foreign policy direction.
The association said his appointment came at a crucial time when Nigerian students abroad were facing challenges such as changing immigration policies, increasing living costs and limited access to consular services.
It added that his leadership would help improve engagement between Nigeria and its diaspora communities, especially students.
“Nigerian students represent a vital segment of the nation’s global presence, and we believe his tenure will strengthen collaboration between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nigerian missions and student bodies across different countries,” the statement read.
The group expressed optimism that Enikanolaiye would champion inclusive and responsive policies tailored to the realities of Nigerians studying overseas.
NANS Diaspora also pledged its readiness to work closely with the minister in promoting the welfare, protection and academic advancement of Nigerian students worldwide.
The association further called for stronger institutional mechanisms to ensure regular dialogue between Nigerian missions and student associations.
It also advocated improved accessibility to consular services and policies that reflect the interests of young Nigerians pursuing education abroad.
Fayomi wished the minister a successful and impactful tenure in office, urging him to prioritise the needs of Nigerians in the diaspora.
