Smoke rises from the site of an Israeli strike that targeted an area in the Lebanese coastal city of Tyre on April 8, 2026. Israel launched a series of strikes on Beirut on April 8, the most violent attack on the Lebanese capital since the start of war. Israel renewed an evacuation order for an area more than 40 kilometres (25 miles) inside Lebanon, saying “the battle in Lebanon is ongoing”, before also reiterating its call for residents of Beirut’s southern suburbs to leave. It also issued a warning for a building in the coastal city of Tyre, after striking another one near it. (Photo by Kawnat HAJU / AFP)
Rescuers said on Wednesday they had recovered the body of Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil after she was killed in an Israeli airstrike on a town in southern Lebanon.
The civil defence agency’s press office said rescuers were “able to recover the body of martyred journalist Amal Khalil, who was killed as a result of a hostile airstrike that targeted a house in the town of al-Tiri”.
Her employer, the Lebanese daily newspaper Al-Akhbar, also announced her death.
