LOKOJA — Former Commissioner for Works in Kogi State, Engineer Mohammed Ahovi Yusuf, has declared his intention to contest the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency seat in the 2027 general elections.
Yusuf made the declaration on Saturday during the unveiling of his manifesto at LGEA Osisi Primary School Field, where he addressed members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and supporters.
The aspirant said his bid for the House of Representatives was aimed at deepening development at the grassroots and consolidating the efforts of Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, particularly within the Adavi/Okehi constituency.
“I envision a constituency where the people have a stronger voice, where youths are empowered, women are supported, and communities enjoy the dividends of democracy,” Yusuf said.
He pledged to prioritise infrastructure development, youth empowerment, education and economic opportunities, adding that his goal is to bridge the gap between the people and government while upholding the ideals of the APC.
Unveiling a people-focused manifesto, Yusuf outlined plans centred on youth development, transparency and basic infrastructure, including vocational training, ICT skills acquisition and startup support for young people.
He also highlighted the need for improved access to potable water, identifying the revitalisation of the Osara Dam as a key priority.
“Provision of clean water is not a privilege, but a right of the people,” he said.
On governance, the APC aspirant promised accountability and regular engagement with constituents, assuring them that their voices would be reflected in legislative actions and constituency projects.
Yusuf expressed confidence that his experience in public service, including his previous role as Senior Special Assistant on Solid Minerals and later Commissioner for Works, had prepared him for effective representation at the National Assembly.
He resigned from the state cabinet in March to pursue his political ambition.
Stakeholders from the Adavi/Okehi Federal Constituency endorsed his candidacy at the event and pledged support ahead of the 2027 elections.
