WinHomes Dispute: HURIWA calls for presidential intervention over lingering compensation concerns

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria has called for presidential intervention in the ongoing dispute involving WinHomes Global Services Limited and diaspora investors affected by the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Road project.

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the association said the matter has remained unresolved for over two years, raising concerns about investor confidence and the need for timely dispute resolution.

HURIWA noted that despite engagements with relevant authorities and submissions by affected parties, the issues surrounding compensation and resolution are yet to be fully addressed.

The group emphasized that prolonged delays in resolving such matters could impact public trust and Nigeria’s reputation as an investment destination.

It also referenced public discussions around the demolition of the WinHomes Estate, including statements attributed to the Minister of Works, David Umahi, and called for clarity on the processes followed in the course of the project.

According to the association, greater transparency is needed to ensure that all actions taken align with established legal and administrative procedures.

HURIWA further highlighted the broader implications of the dispute, noting that clear and consistent application of due process is essential to maintaining investor confidence, particularly among Nigerians in the diaspora.

The association urged the Federal Government to provide clarification on the circumstances surrounding the matter and to ensure that all parties are treated fairly in line with the law.

It also called on relevant institutions to continue engaging stakeholders with a view to reaching a mutually acceptable resolution.

HURIWA stressed the importance of strengthening mechanisms for dispute resolution and ensuring that infrastructure development projects are implemented with due regard for existing investments and stakeholder interests.

The group reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring developments and advocating for transparency and accountability in the handling of the case.

It added that timely and fair resolution of disputes remains critical to sustaining economic growth and reinforcing confidence in governance.
