The Association of Local Government of Nigeria, Osun State chapter on Tuesday distributed 300 new motorcycles to security agencies in the State to bolster local patrol and tackle insecurity.
The benefiting security agencies include, the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Department of State Security, DSS, Vigilante, Hunters and Local Community Security outfits.
Speaking at the distribution exercise held inside the Osun Police Command headquarters in Osogbo, ALGON Chairman, Mr Abiodun Idowu disclosed that allowing local government autonomy provides the freedom for local government council to support security agencies with logistics.
“The provision of these motorcycles is therefore not only a security intervention but also a practical demonstration of the effectiveness of local government autonomy in Nigeria. It shows that when empowered, local governments can become strong pillars in the architecture of national security and development.
“The motorcycles we are distributing today will enhance mobility, improve response time, and enable our security agencies to access difficult terrains, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas. This initiative is aimed at strengthening community policing and ensuring that no part of our state is left vulnerable”, he added.
In his remarks, the Osun Police Commissioner Ibrahim Gotan disclosed that security is a collective responsibility which required partnership and support to tackle growing insecurity across the country.
His words, “Security is a collective responsibility, the challenges we face today require collaboration, partnership, and sustained support from all stakeholders. The donation of this motorcycle will undoubtedly enhance our operational capacity, particularly in hard-to-reach areas, and will improve response time and patrol courage.
“On behalf of the Nigeria Police Force, the IGP, and other security agencies present here, I sincerely thank ALGON for this thoughtful, impactful intervention. Be assured that this motorcycle will be deployed judiciously”.
