APC signals readiness to receive Bala Mohammed as Bauchi Caucus concludes talks

The Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has indicated its willingness to receive Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed amid ongoing consultations surrounding his possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This follows a meeting between the governor and members of the Bauchi APC Caucus held at his Abuja residence on Wednesday, seen as a significant development in the state’s political landscape.

The caucus had earlier constituted a committee to address concerns raised by party stakeholders over the proposed move. However, sources within the party said recent consultations have led to a consensus among key actors.

Speaking to stakeholders on Thursday, Secretary of the Bauchi APC Caucus and member representing Toro Federal Constituency, Hon. Dabo Isma’il, described the engagement with the governor as productive, noting that discussions focused on ensuring a smooth and inclusive process.

“We had a fruitful engagement with His Excellency. Afterward, we reconvened to brief the wider caucus on the outcome of our discussions regarding his proposed defection,” he said.

Isma’il added that the development aligns with the broader strategy of the APC under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, aimed at expanding the party’s base.

According to him, the party’s national leadership—including the National Chairman, the Vice President, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives—has been involved in consultations related to the governor’s possible entry into the party.

He assured party members that the process would be guided by fairness and inclusiveness.

“I assure our members that no one will be witch-hunted or shortchanged. We are working towards strengthening the party, and the governor has indicated willingness to engage with members at all levels,” he said.

Former Bauchi State Governor and ex-Minister of Aviation, Isa Yuguda, also expressed support for ongoing consultations, emphasizing the importance of unity within the party.

“No matter what we achieve, if we do not win elections, it amounts to little. Our goal is to win decisively and peacefully. We must close ranks and strengthen unity,” he stated.

Similarly, Hon. Jafaru Gambo Leko, representing Dass/Bogoro/Tafawa Balewa Federal Constituency, said consultations would continue to ensure that concerns of party members are addressed.

“We will sustain consultations to ensure inclusiveness and cohesion among members. As representatives of the people, we remain committed to promoting unity,” he said.
