2027: Groups endorse Garba Yusuf for Kano Central senatorial seat

Several political groups in Kano State have endorsed Garba Yusuf Abubakar, a former Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, to contest the Kano Central Senatorial seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The groups, under the aegis of Garba Yusuf Abubakar Co-ordinating Committee, based their decision on his track record in public service, having served as a commissioner in different ministries in two previous administrations in Kano.

At strategic meetings held this week across the 15 local government areas that make up the senatorial district, the organizations declared their approval of Abubakar’s candidature.

Former Education Secretary of Kano Municipal and ex-APC ward chairman in Tudun Wuzirci, Abdulkadir Muhammad Kabara, said the support was made on behalf of the Director-General, National Productivity Center (NPC), Baffa Babba Dan-Agundi.

Speaking in Gezawa LGA, he noted that the endorsement is backed by the Tinubu Support Group (TSG) structure and its components, including clerics, social media influencers, and grassroots mobilisers.

“This movement has a presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and since Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf joined APC, Ganduje linked him up with Dan-Agundi. We are with the Governor 100 percent,” Kabara said.

“For the Kano Central senatorial seat, we have our candidate, who is Alhaji Garba Yusuf Abubakar. He is part of us; we support him and will work for his success. All TSG members are solidly with him.”

The chieftain further assured that the coalition is fully committed to unity within the APC, adding that, “All party members are our allies, we don’t fight anybody.”

Garba Yusuf, a seasoned Kano politician, served in multiple capacities as a commissioner in key ministries, including Information, Environment, Works and Housing, Finance and Economic Development, and Water Resources.

Popularly known as Garba Izala, he held the positions during the eight-year administration of ex-Governor Ibrahim Shekarau and continued his service in the last two years of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s tenure.
