More than 7,000 people from Ondo State and neighbouring areas attended the maiden edition of Owo Praise the Lord, a community worship event organised by entrepreneur Bukunyi Olagbegi, yesterday.

The three-hour programme, held at Methodist Primary School, Owo, brought together worshippers, industry leaders, and political figures in a show of faith and community solidarity. Gospel musicians Yinka Ayefele, Bidemi Olaoba, Funmi Aragbaiye, Adeyinka Alaseyori, and Elijah Daniels led musical ministrations, while Cleric Wole Oladiyun delivered a prophetic message. Woli Arole served as host, providing comic relief throughout the event.

Yinka Ayefele’s performance drew the loudest response, with the veteran musician leading the crowd in sustained worship.

According to Mr. Olagbegi, the initiative was conceived as a homecoming for Owo indigenes across the country and the diaspora, aimed at celebrating the town’s Christian heritage and cultural identity.

“Our goal is to highlight our historic hometown while providing an evening of worship and joy,” he said. “We invited some of the finest voices in Nigerian gospel to make this night memorable.”

Bukunyi Olagbegi is the CEO of FBSS Nigeria Limited and sits on the board of Altheus Limited, a firm with interests in energy, human capacity development, and private equity. In 2019, he was named among the 100 Most Influential People of African Descent by the United Nations.

Local residents commended the initiative. Iremide, an indigene, said, “Bukunyi Olagbegi has shown his love for Owo. This event will remain in our hearts for years to come.” Adeola, who travelled from Ikare, added, “Witnessing such a large-scale worship gathering and a live Yinka Ayefele performance in Owo is an unforgettable experience.”

The event concluded with prayers for peace and development in Owo and Ondo State, leaving participants inspired and hopeful.
