In a bid to boost movement of farm produce with ease, the All Progressives Congress APC-led administration in Boripe Local Government Council of Osun State has commenced grading of rural roads in the area.
The exercise would be conducted on the five major towns of the council, covering several rural roads to facilitate ease of movement among rural dwellers.
The road grading which commenced at Ofa Ataba zone 7 community in Iragbiji on Tuesday, was flagged off by the Council Chairman, Mr Sikiru Odebunmi in company of councillors, traditional chiefs and party chieftains.
Odebunmi disclosed that the dwellers council’s five communities are predominantly farmers, hence, the need to open up rural roads and make it passable for the movement of farm produce.
His words, “This road lead to three different villages with over 400 houses. For close to 15 to 20 years, they have abandoned this road until today, the villagers don’t have access to that road any longer, even to go to those villages with motorcycle, it is a difficult task. I am sure that today, those villagers will smile with access road.
“All the towns in Boripe local government will benefit from this rural roads grading project. This is to improve agriculture in our rural areas and to make life more comfortable and convenient for our people.”
The Aragbiji of Iragbiji, Oba Abdulrasheed Olabomi commended the council executive for their efforts to ensure they boost agriculture practices in the grassroots of Osun State.
Oba Olabomi who was represented by Baale Ofa Ataba, Chief Ayoade Awokunle, described the initiative as a move that will further make common citizens to love you and vote for you.
“Just few weeks ago, the council reconstructed the bridge close to my domain to connect Ajibode, Methodist to Iragbiji town and other areas in the council. Now you are grading road linked to Oke-Iragbiji and many other areas. I want to applaud this gesture. It will further help in transporting our farm produce to the urban communities”, he added.
A party chieftains, who was also at the event, Mr Kehinde Ayantunji attributed the feat to the autonomy granted local government councils across the State which is already manifesting in Osun State.
