The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has partnered with the Construction Artisan Training School (CATS) to launch Project 1 Million Construction Artisan Training Vision 2036, aimed at training and empowering one million Nigerian youths in construction skills over the next ten years—entirely free of charge.
The programme, fully funded by CATS and its partners, leverages NDE’s nationwide network of training centres to provide participants with modern facilities and expert instruction in high-demand construction trades, enhancing both employability and entrepreneurial opportunities.
Dr. Olayemi Rotimi-Shodimu, Project Lead at CATS, described the partnership as “a transformative opportunity for Nigerian youths” that addresses the country’s construction skills gap. He added that the initiative would also support reskilling for existing artisans in the informal sector, contributing to employment generation, reduced drug addiction, and mitigation of youth insecurity.
NDE Director-General, His Excellency Silas Agara, said the initiative aligns with the agency’s mandate to promote employment and entrepreneurship. “Through this programme, we aim to positively transform the lives of one million youths,” he stated.
The project underscores a commitment to equipping Nigerian youths with practical skills that drive economic growth and sustainable development.
