A prominent political group in Ogun State, the Omoluabi Movement, has rebranded as the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) as part of strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Convener, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, and made available to journalists in Abeokuta on Tuesday by the State Media Director of the group, Oluseun Joshua.
Explaining the rationale behind the move, Akintunde said the rebranding represents a natural progression in the group’s political journey, noting that the movement is transitioning into a new phase following the completion of its earlier agenda.
According to him, members of the newly christened Yayi Progressives Movement are committed to mobilising support for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ogun State—from the presidential election to the State House of Assembly polls. He added that particular emphasis would be placed on backing the governorship aspiration of Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in 2027.
Akintunde described the YPM as a broad-based grassroots platform comprising artisans, professionals, youth groups and politically conscious stakeholders, alongside 17 affiliated groups working towards the continued development of the state within the progressive fold.
He further disclosed that the movement boasts over 30,000 members, stressing that its growing numerical strength underscores increasing acceptance and support across the state.
“The leadership of the Omoluabi Movement hereby announces its official transition and rebranding into the Yayi Progressives Movement in Ogun State. As one of the leading grassroots political platforms in the state, it is imperative to inform the public and critical stakeholders of the rationale behind this strategic evolution,” the statement read.
Akintunde explained that the transition also marks a shift from the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda, DACA, to a broader political platform aligned with emerging political realities ahead of the 2027 elections.
He recalled that prior to the 2023 general elections, the movement operated under DACA, which was established to support the re-election bid of Governor Dapo Abiodun. During that period, he said, the platform successfully mobilised grassroots support in recognition of the administration’s performance and commitment to its campaign promises.
The convener maintained that the newly rebranded movement would focus on strengthening grassroots participation while promoting progressive ideals anchored on inclusivity, civic responsibility and accountable leadership.
“Through this rebranding, the Yayi Progressives Movement aims to build an inclusive political structure that empowers citizens, promotes integrity and redefines leadership culture. Our philosophy is centred on institutional reforms that will deliver sustainable impact beyond electoral cycles,” he said.
Akintunde added that political development must be driven by strong ideological conviction and reform-oriented leadership, with emphasis on economic growth, industrial expansion, educational advancement and enhanced civic engagement.
