KADUNA — Prominent Muslim and Christian leaders have come together at the residence of former Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF) president, Yerima Shettima, to observe an Iftar, using the occasion to promote religious tolerance and unity among Nigerians.
The interfaith gathering included Islamic scholar Sheikh Ahmad Gumi; Chairman of the Northern Christian Association, Rev. Joseph John Hayab; Kaduna State CAN chairman, Caleb Maaji; and Senior Special Adviser on Christian Matters to Governor Uba Sani, Ishaya Adamu Jangado, among others.
Sheikh Gumi emphasized that religious harmony is essential for peace and development in Northern Nigeria, urging citizens to resist divisive forces seeking to exploit faith for conflict.
Rev. Hayab described the joint Iftar as a symbol of unity and trust-building between Christians and Muslims, while Rev. Jangado reiterated the Kaduna State government’s commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence.
Yerima Shettima, the host, highlighted that the gathering was organized to demonstrate that people of different faiths can live in mutual respect, stressing the role of leaders in preventing religion from being manipulated for division.
Participants praised the event as a practical example of interfaith cooperation and called on Nigerians to embrace dialogue, tolerance, and shared humanity. The gathering concluded with prayers for peace, stability, and continued unity in Kaduna State and nationwide.
