SanDisk unveils next-generation portable SSDs for faster workflows, AI content

SanDisk has introduced a new generation of portable solid-state drives (SSDs) designed to support faster data transfers and the growing demands of AI-generated content and modern digital workflows.

The company announced a three-tier lineup of portable storage devices aimed at everyday users, creative professionals, and enterprise-level content producers. The new portfolio includes the SanDisk Portable SSD, SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD, and SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD.

According to the company, the latest drives offer improved performance and durability, with the SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD already available in the market. The remaining products in the lineup are expected to be released later in the year.

Vice President of Consumer Marketing at SanDisk, Heidi Arkinstall, said the new devices were designed to meet evolving storage needs across different user segments.

She noted that whether at home, in the office, or on the move, the drives provide dependable storage solutions that combine portability, performance, and durability for users whose data needs continue to grow.

Vice President of Consumer Products at SanDisk, Susan Park, said the increasing resolution of digital media and the rise of AI-generated content have led to a surge in data volumes handled by users across multiple devices.

She said the new portable SSD portfolio was designed to move large files quickly while maintaining a compact and portable form factor.

The company also highlighted durability as a key feature of the devices.

The SanDisk Portable SSD offers drop protection of up to two metres, while the Extreme and Extreme PRO models can withstand drops of up to three metres and carry IP65 ratings for resistance against water and dust.

Additionally, the Extreme and Extreme PRO drives include password protection supported by 256-bit AES hardware encryption to enhance data security.

SanDisk said the new portfolio is intended to help users manage increasing data loads while maintaining speed, mobility, and protection for their digital content.

The SanDisk Extreme Portable SSD is designed for content creators, photographers, and video professionals handling large files. The drive offers read speeds of up to 2,000MB per second, allowing users to transfer as many as 1,000 high-resolution photos in less than a minute, making it suitable for managing large creative projects.

For more demanding workloads, the SanDisk Extreme PRO Portable SSD targets professional photographers, filmmakers, and designers who require high-speed storage for complex projects. The device supports transfer speeds of up to 4,000MB per second, enabling the transfer of 10 minutes of 12K video in under one minute.

Meanwhile, the SanDisk Portable SSD is aimed at students, office workers, and individuals seeking a simple storage solution for everyday digital content. The compact device provides read speeds of up to 1,000MB per second, allowing users to back up files, store photos and videos, and manage personal data easily.
