A pro-Tinubu political group, the Global Alliance for Tinubu Campaign (GATIC 2027), was on Wednesday inaugurated in Abuja with a pledge to mobilise at least five million votes in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in the 2027 presidential election.

Speaking at the inaugural press conference, the Director-General of the group, Prince Bevis Paul Igbinoba, described the launch as a significant step toward consolidating what he called the achievements of the Tinubu administration.

According to him, the formation of the alliance was driven by the belief that the reforms initiated by the President require continuity to deliver their full impact.

“The bold reforms being implemented across key sectors need adequate time to gain traction and mature. We cannot afford to truncate the current policy direction and lose the gains already recorded,” Igbinoba said.

He explained that the alliance comprises professionals and stakeholders from different backgrounds within Nigeria and in the diaspora who are committed to supporting the President’s second-term ambition.

Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023, and in his inaugural address announced the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange system — policy decisions that have since sparked extensive national debate.

Igbinoba said the administration inherited a struggling economy burdened by subsidy payments and multiple exchange rates, adding that the reforms, despite initial challenges, are beginning to yield positive outcomes.

He cited increased crude oil production, improved revenue allocations to states following the removal of subsidy, and a reduction in the country’s debt service-to-revenue ratio from 97 per cent in 2022 to about 61 per cent in 2025 as signs of improved fiscal discipline.

The group also highlighted several infrastructure initiatives, including the 750-kilometre Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway and ongoing federal road projects across the six geopolitical zones.

Other programmes listed by the alliance include the establishment of a Federal Ministry of Livestock Development, expansion of gas infrastructure, renewable energy initiatives, power sector reforms, social investment programmes, youth employment schemes, support for small and medium enterprises, and efforts to attract foreign and portfolio investments.

While acknowledging the country’s lingering economic and security challenges, Igbinoba maintained that the administration is working to stabilise the nation and deserves the support of Nigerians to complete what he described as a national recovery mission.

He cautioned against a change in leadership solely for the sake of change, stressing that policy consistency is necessary to sustain ongoing reforms.

To achieve its goal, the group said it would deploy grassroots mobilisation strategies and leverage its networks both within Nigeria and in the diaspora to galvanise support ahead of the 2027 elections.

“Our strategies are well laid out and will be unveiled soon. With the support of millions of Nigerians, the challenges before us can be overcome,” Igbinoba said.

He also called on the media to support efforts aimed at strengthening national development and positioning Nigeria for greater progress among nations.
