ILORIN — A non-governmental organisation, Abibakr As-Sidiq Philanthropic Home (ASPH), has announced a major empowerment initiative targeting 970 vulnerable Nigerians in Abuja and Kwara State through a skills acquisition and livelihood support programme.

The President of ASPH, Mallam Abdulrazzaq Ibrahim Salman, disclosed in a statement on Monday that the intervention will be sponsored by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief) under the Transformative Skills and Livelihood Empowerment Programme for Less Privileged Nigerians.

According to him, the programme will focus on internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, widows, unemployed youth, and individuals living below the poverty line across communities in the Federal Capital Territory and Kwara State.

He explained that the initiative is designed to provide practical vocational and entrepreneurial skills that will enable beneficiaries to achieve sustainable economic independence.

Participants will receive hands-on training in high-demand and income-generating fields, including tailoring and garment production, catering and food processing, ICT and digital literacy, photography, and other locally relevant trades. Upon completion, beneficiaries will be equipped with starter kits, tools, and operational support to help them establish their own businesses immediately.

Mallam Abdulrazzaq emphasised that the programme prioritises long-term empowerment over short-term relief.

“By providing practical skills and business support, the programme aims to restore dignity, strengthen resilience, and reduce economic vulnerability among displaced and disadvantaged populations,” he said.

He added that the project will be implemented in collaboration with relevant federal and Kwara State authorities to ensure transparency and fairness in the nomination and verification of beneficiaries. Special consideration will be given to households facing severe economic hardship and displacement.

The ASPH leadership expressed appreciation to KSrelief for its continued humanitarian support to Nigeria, describing the initiative as a significant contribution to poverty reduction, youth empowerment, and economic development in the targeted areas.

Implementation is expected to commence after the completion of beneficiary nomination and verification processes, with monitoring and follow-up mechanisms in place to ensure sustainable outcomes.
