IFPD, Afro-Caribbean Chamber sign MOU for cultural diplomacy, peace

The International Forum for Peace & Diplomacy (IFPD) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Afro-Caribbean Chamber of Culture & Tourism, establishing a strategic partnership to advance cultural diplomacy, heritage promotion, tourism development, and peacebuilding between Africa and its global diaspora.

Announcing the agreement, IFPD Director-General Ambassador Adeniran described it as a timely and powerful move to reclaim and project African identity on the world stage.

“This partnership is a strong statement of cultural diplomacy,” Ambassador Adeniran stated. “It recognizes the African diaspora not only as custodians of shared history, but as strategic partners in projecting Africa’s cultural power, economic potential, and peace-building capacity.”

The collaboration seeks to harness the continent’s tourism and cultural economy—valued at over US$27 billion annually—through joint programs, cultural exchanges, tourism promotion, diaspora engagement platforms, and investment advocacy. Both parties emphasized that cultural tourism can drive inclusive economic growth while restoring historical connections and fostering intercultural dialogue.

A core pillar of the MOU is the use of tourism and cultural heritage as tools for peace. By promoting mutual understanding, preserving shared heritage, and encouraging positive cross-regional engagement, the partnership aims to address social fragmentation and strengthen peaceful coexistence across Africa and the diaspora.

Key areas of cooperation outlined in the agreement include cultural and heritage exchange programs, joint tourism promotion and investment advocacy, diaspora-led cultural diplomacy initiatives, peace education through creative industries, and policy dialogue on sustainable and inclusive tourism.

The Afro-Caribbean Chamber of Culture & Tourism welcomed the alliance as a forward-looking partnership that combines economic opportunity with historical responsibility and global cultural influence.

Through this MOU, IFPD reinforces its commitment to innovative diplomacy that treats culture not just as heritage, but as a strategic asset for unity, prosperity, and peace across the African continent and its global diaspora.
