Ngwa Social Club appoints Onyendi to chair 2026 Ngwa Day planning committee

The Ngwa Social Club (NSC), convener of the annual Ngwa Day Celebration, has announced the appointment of Dr Brightman Onyendi as Chairman of the 2026 Ngwa Day Planning Committee.

The appointment was disclosed by the Leader of Ngwa, Barr. Theo Nkire, during a reception held in honour of the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, on 31 January 2026.

According to Nkire, the decision followed consultations across Ngwaland and received unanimous endorsement from stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, professional bodies, youth groups and Ngwa associations in the diaspora.

Ngwa Day is an annual cultural event aimed at celebrating the heritage and achievements of the Ngwa people, while promoting cultural identity, economic cooperation and social cohesion.

The President of the Ngwa Social Club, Prof. Paul Ananaba, SAN, said the appointment reflected stakeholders’ confidence in Dr Onyendi’s leadership.

“Dr Brightman Onyendi represents the excellence, vision and commitment that Ngwa Day stands for. His unanimous endorsement by stakeholders across Ngwaland demonstrates the unity of purpose among our people as we continue to elevate Ngwa Day into a globally recognised cultural celebration,” Ananaba said.

In his acceptance remarks, Dr Onyendi thanked stakeholders for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to work collaboratively with all relevant groups.

“I am deeply honoured by this responsibility and the overwhelming support of our people. Together, we will build on the successes of previous editions and deliver a 2026 Ngwa Day that reflects our shared heritage, innovation and collective aspirations,” he said.

The Ngwa Social Club said further details on the composition of the Planning Committee and programme of activities would be announced in due course.
