A socio-civic organisation, the Erinja Elite Youth Group, has congratulated former Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, NPM, PhD, as he formally bowed out of office as Nigeria’s 22nd Inspector-General of Police on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

According to a public statement co-signed by the group’s President, Tolu Akinwunmi and its Media & Publicity Secretary, ‘Dotun Akintomide, Thursday, “the Erinja Elite Youth Group on behalf of the good people of Erinja-Orile in Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State, under the revered leadership of the Elerinja of Erinja, HRM Oba Ebenezer Alani Egunjobi (FCA), Ilufemiloye l, lauds Egbetokun’s records of achievements in office”, as they described Egbetokun’s tenure as historic and the one that recorded many reforms that will continue to shape the Nigeria Police Force in the foreseeable future.

Dr. Egbetokun made history as the first Inspector-General of Police of Ogun State descent, a milestone the group said has brought immense pride to Erinja, the Yewa people, and the entire Ogun State.

During his time at the helm of the Nigeria Police Force, Egbetokun was credited with championing institutional reforms, professionalism, and intelligence-led policing. His administration saw deliberate efforts to strengthen police intelligence structures, expand tactical operations, improve manpower through large-scale recruitment, enhance officer welfare, and modernise investigative and digital policing frameworks.

The Erinja Elite Youth Group noted that “his leadership came at a period of complex national security challenges and commended his advocacy for improved training systems, enhanced funding mechanisms, and stronger institutional accountability aimed at repositioning the police as a modern, responsive, and people-centred institution.”

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, had earlier commended Egbetokun’s service, noting that his tenure reflected “dedication to strengthening internal security and institutional reforms within the Nigeria Police Force.”

The group added that Egbetokun remains a “shining example to the sons and daughters of Erinja and the wider Yewa community.”

They described him as an inspiration whose career demonstrates that dedication, discipline, and integrity can lead to the highest levels of national service.

“He leaves behind important institutional building blocks for the future of policing in Nigeria,” the statement added.

“The Erinja community celebrated his contributions to national development and wished him continued success and fulfilment in his future endeavours.”
