The Abia State Chief Liaison Officer in Abuja, Iheanyi Chinasa, on Wednesday paid the medical bills of indigent patients at selected hospitals in the state to mark the 61st birthday of Governor Alex Otti.

The outreach took place at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia and Mother Mary Hospital, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia.

Chinasa, a philanthropist and 2023 House of Representatives candidate of the Labour Party, said the humanitarian gesture was his chosen way of celebrating the governor’s leadership by supporting vulnerable residents.

At Mother Mary Hospital, he cleared the outstanding medical bill of Esther Chinedum, who is receiving treatment for breast cancer, and also supported Mrs. Ijeoma Ogbonnaya, whose daughter was scheduled for surgery, alongside other patients whose treatments had been delayed due to unpaid bills. He further settled the medical expenses of several other indigent patients at the facility.

The outreach continued at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, where Chinasa paid the hospital bill of Mrs. Nnenna Thomas, who recently underwent surgery.

Speaking during the visits, Chinasa described the gesture as a tribute to Governor Otti’s people-focused leadership and commitment to improving the welfare of Abia residents.

He encouraged citizens at home and in the diaspora to support initiatives aimed at improving healthcare access and social welfare in the state.

Governor Otti has consistently encouraged well-wishers to channel resources meant for celebrations into humanitarian services that benefit those in need.
