A high-level delegation from Egypt’s Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (MOPMN) has held discussions with Energy Capital & Power (ECP), organisers of African Mining Week (AMW), to explore the country’s anticipated participation in the 2026 edition of the continent’s premier mining investment event.
The meeting, which took place ahead of AMW 2026 (scheduled for October 14–16 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre), focused on Egypt’s strategic engagement in the conference, building on its successful showing at AMW 2025 and expressing interest in potential future hosting.
The Egyptian delegation included Mr. Yasser Ramadan (Chairman, Egyptian Mineral Resources and Mining Industries Authority – MRMIA), Mr. Mohamad Ismael (MRMIA Board Member), Eng. Mahmoud Nagy (Undersecretary of Energy Efficiency), Eng. Abeer Elsherbiny (Undersecretary, Technical Office), Eng. Nehal Khalil (Head of Communication and Events), and Geol. Yosra Othman (Technical Office).
Egypt highlighted its intention to use AMW as a platform to showcase its vast and commercially attractive mineral resources, particularly in the Eastern Desert and Sinai Peninsula. Key deposits include over 9 million ounces of estimated gold reserves, 660 million tons of iron oxides, significant phosphates, copper, high-purity silica sand, and coal.
Officials emphasised ongoing reforms, including the launch of a digital mining cadastre in Q2 2026 to streamline investor access, reduce bureaucracy, and shorten permitting timelines. Egypt also outlined active cooperation discussions with Ghana and Nigeria to strengthen intra-African partnerships, noting that AMW could serve as a catalyst for advancing this continental collaboration.
“Egypt is making significant progress in mineral processing and beneficiation,” said James Chester, CEO of Energy Capital & Power. “The country has a strong mining foundation, and AMW presents an important opportunity to deepen cooperation with other African players.”
Rachelle Kasongo, Event Director of AMW, underscored the event’s alignment with Egypt’s objectives, particularly following the country’s 2025 gold value chain financing agreement with the African Export-Import Bank.
Under the theme Mining the Future: Unearthing Africa’s Full Mineral Value, AMW 2026 will feature high-level panels, exclusive networking, and project showcases examining the role of Egypt and Africa’s mining value chains in global supply security. The event aims to connect regulators, mining companies, and international investors to drive partnerships and deal-making across the continent.
