The Government of Gabon, in partnership with construction firm Porteo BTP Gabon, has officially commenced the development and asphalting of the Alembe–Lopé–Carrefour Leroy Mykouyi Road, a 306‑kilometre corridor expected to boost connectivity, trade, and regional integration.

The project, formally launched last Friday, mirrors Nigeria’s own infrastructure drive where strategic road networks are deployed to link economic zones, reduce travel time, and stimulate socio‑economic growth. Executed by Porteo BTP Gabon, a subsidiary of the pan‑African Porteo Group led by Hassan Dakhallallah, the road is positioned as a vital artery connecting Gabon’s centre‑south to the north‑east, supporting agriculture, forestry, and commerce.
At the launch ceremony, Vice‑President Hermann Immongault and Public Works Minister Edgard Moukombi joined community leaders and company executives to highlight the project’s impact. Local residents turned out in large numbers, underscoring the importance of improved access and mobility for host communities.
Porteo BTP Gabon said the modernization will generate about 1,400 jobs during construction, alongside hundreds of heavy‑duty machines, reinforcing its role in youth employment and skills development.
The company also pledged strict adherence to environmental standards, ensuring the Lopé National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is protected during the works.
Reaffirming the broader African vision, Porteo Group’s leadership described the project as part of its mission to build “an industrial, autonomous, and connected Africa.” The Alembe–Lopé–Carrefour Leroy Mykouyi Road is expected to serve as a strategic tool for regional opening, inclusive development, and long‑term economic growth.
