The Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Prof. Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote, has endorsed the Prada Uzodimma Law School Scholarship Grant (PUSG), citing its contribution to improving access to legal education for financially disadvantaged law graduates.
The endorsement followed a courtesy visit by the Founder of PUSG, Dr. Prada O. Uzodimma, to the Director-General, during which the scholarship’s objectives, governance structure and impact were discussed. Prof. Odusote, who was recently appointed to the position, acknowledged the initiative’s consistency and transparency and expressed support for its continued operation.
The scholarship scheme, implemented in partnership with Principle Legal Consult as part of its corporate social responsibility programme, is designed to support qualified candidates admitted to the Nigerian Law School who face financial challenges.
PUSG has previously received institutional backing from a former Director-General of the Nigerian Law School, Isa Chiroma, as well as from a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami. Observers say the continued support across successive leaderships reflects the scheme’s standing within the legal education sector.
Since its establishment, the scholarship has expanded in scope, with the number of beneficiaries increasing annually. In addition to covering tuition-related costs, the programme offers professional development initiatives, including mentorship through its Fireside Chat Series, internship placements and post–Law School employment support facilitated through its professional network.
Commenting on the endorsement, Dr. Uzodimma said the support of the current Director-General affirmed the scholarship’s governance and accountability framework, noting that the initiative also focuses on developing competent and ethical legal practitioners.
In her remarks, Prof. Odusote underscored the role of structured private-sector interventions in promoting merit-based access to legal education in Nigeria.
Organisers of the programme said preparations are underway for the next selection cycle, with beneficiaries of the 2025 edition expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
