Renowned entrepreneur and philanthropist, Obinna Iyiegbu, popularly known as Obi Cubana, has reiterated his commitment to inclusive development, regional cooperation and youth engagement as key drivers of Nigeria’s national growth agenda.

Iyiegbu stated this while hosting Seyi Tinubu at his Abuja residence, where discussions centred on national development, youth participation and the role of constructive engagement in governance.

Speaking on the meeting, Obi Cubana said development of the South-East and the country at large must rise above partisan considerations and be anchored on competence, integrity and active engagement with leadership.

“The development of the South-East must be an all-inclusive project, free from partisan politics. It can only be achieved when competent people are in positions of influence, guiding leadership and delivering meaningful outcomes for the people,” he said.
He acknowledged recent improvements in security across the South-East, attributing the progress to collaboration between governors of the region and the Federal Government. According to him, the improved security situation helped restore confidence during the last festive season.

“For the first time in a long while, we returned home in December and truly enjoyed Ala Igbo. That experience was made possible by deliberate efforts to tackle insecurity. I strongly believe the South-East is on the path to regaining its place as a major economic hub in West Africa,” he said.

On his appointment as South-East Coordinator of the City Boy Movement, Obi Cubana said he was aware of the reactions it had generated but maintained that sustainable change can only be achieved through engagement rather than disengagement.

“I understand the different reactions trailing my appointment, but my position remains clear: meaningful change comes from engaging with the system, not standing outside it,” he stated.

He stressed that his involvement in the movement would not compromise his core values, adding that service, integrity and community development would continue to guide his actions.

“Service remains my guiding principle. This role does not change my commitment to integrity, community growth and responsible leadership,” he said.

Emphasising the importance of proximity to decision-making, Iyiegbu said influence is more effective when individuals are actively involved in governance processes.

“I’ve learned that influence works best when you are part of the system. So yes, I am a City Boy, inside and out,” he added.

He described President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a symbol of commerce-driven leadership, noting that collective effort was required to achieve Nigeria’s national aspirations.

“Our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is also a City Boy and a man of commerce. We need one another to move the nation forward, and I am committed to carrying every Nigerian along,” he said.

Calling for unity and civility in national discourse, Obi Cubana urged Nigerians to focus on value creation rather than division.

“Let us respect different opinions, keep conversations constructive and remain focused on building value. The moment is now,” he said.

He also disclosed plans to scale up youth-focused initiatives ahead of 2026, saying he would leverage his private-sector experience to support policies and leadership frameworks that empower young people, women and small businesses.

“Where enterprise meets vision and leadership is right, I will always support efforts that improve the lives of our youths, women, children and future generations,” he said.

Obi Cubana is a leading figure in Nigeria’s hospitality, entertainment and real estate sectors and is widely known for his advocacy for enterprise-led development and youth empowerment.
