Ovu community in Agbon Clan, Ethiope East local government area, Delta State, has constituted a fundraising committee for the renovation of Ovu and Oviorie Primary Health Care Centres and construction of doctors’ and nurses’ residential buildings.
A statement by the Chairman. Prof Patrick Igbigbi, Vice Chairman, Chief Ken Omamogho and the Secretary, Chief Anthony Demide, on behalf of the Project Planning Committee, said the health centers have been serving Ovu and surrounding communities since 1978.
Igbigbi said the facilities are not only vital to healthcare delivery but also serve as training centers for students from Delta State University and the Delta State School of Health Sciences, providing clinical and academic attachments.
However, he emphasized that the current state of these facilities, coupled with lack of hostel accommodation for students, presents significant challenges to effective healthcare delivery and quality medical training.
According to the statement,”the estimated cost for the renovation and construction project is ₦200,000,000. A detailed cost breakdown will be made available during the fundraising event.”
According tIgbigbi, the project aims to improve healthcare services within the Ovu community and provide proper accommodation for students on clinical attachment, as well as for the doctors and nurses serving at these health centers.
He pointed out some of the proposed projects to include renovation of the two Primary Health Care Centres at Oviorie and Ovu Inland; construction of students’ hostel and construction of doctors’ and nurses’ residential buildings.
Others are the upgrades to the solar electricity system, installation of solar-powered fans, hospital beds, furniture, and solar-powered pumping machines.
In response to these challenges, the community, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, is committed to renovating and upgrading the existing Ovu Primary Health Care Centers.
The fundraising and project launch ceremony is scheduled to take place on Saturday, February 28, 2026. The venue for the ceremony will be the Ovu Primary Health Care Centre, Ovu Inland.
Igbigbi appealed for continued cooperation, commitment, and support for the proposed projects to improve healthcare delivery and infrastructure in the community.
