Apostle Johnson Suleman, Senior Pastor of Omega Fire Ministries (OFM) Global, has cautioned Christian leaders against what he described as an increasing tendency to seek attention on social media by publicly criticising fellow pastors.
In a video clip circulating widely online, the cleric warned that some ministers have shifted focus from core Christian teachings to reacting to trending controversies in order to gain relevance and online engagement.
Suleman advised pastors to prioritise preaching the gospel rather than using the pulpit or digital platforms to attack colleagues or promote personal opinions.
“Preach Christ. Preach Jesus to your members. Don’t attack others,” he said, stressing that church platforms should not be used for public disputes or popularity contests.
The remarks come amid ongoing discussions within Nigeria’s Christian community following controversial statements shared online, including comments that have sparked debate among church leaders and congregants.
Reactions to Suleman’s intervention have been mixed on social media. While some users believe that doctrinal discussions and differing viewpoints are inevitable within the church, others have welcomed his call for restraint, unity, and renewed emphasis on spiritual teachings.
One social media user, identified as @MattewAfenire, expressed support for Suleman’s position, criticising what he described as avoidable public disagreements among pastors that appear driven by online visibility rather than spiritual guidance.
Suleman’s comments have further fuelled conversations on the conduct of religious leaders and the growing influence of social media on faith leadership in Nigeria, particularly in an era where sermons and opinions can quickly gain widespread attention.
