Ambassador Elvis Akpobi, Special Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Youth Mentoring and Development, has in his opinion stated that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori deserves re-election for unprecedented youth inclusion, with young people now occupying a larger percent of the State Executive Council.
He made this assertion in a statement recently, highlighting the governor’s fulfilled campaign promise of youth inclusion in governance and commitment to empowering young Deltans through leadership training.
According to Akpobi, the governor’s campaign promise that young Deltans would be actively involved in the decision-making process of the state has become a reality.
A large percentage of the State Executive Council is now made up of young people serving as Commissioners and Special Advisers, not to mention the overwhelming number of young Deltans appointed as political aides across government.
“Deltans will re-elect Governor Sheriff because of his giant strides in infrastructure and his fulfilled promise on youth inclusion and development,” Akpobi stated.
He noted in the statement that through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on youth Mentoring, over 300 young Deltans have undergone leadership training both within and outside Nigeria through government-sponsored scholarships, equipping a new generation of emerging leaders in Delta State.
Governor Sheriff leadership development initiative, according to his statement, demonstrates the administration’s commitment to building capacity among young people and preparing them for future leadership roles in the state and beyond.
The annual Delta State Social Innovation and Leadership Boot Camp has also trained over 200 young Africans, further positioning Delta State as Africa”s hub for youth leadership and innovation.
“This is leadership with vision. This is inclusion in action,” Akpobi emphasized.
In his statement, Akpobi disclosed that five young Deltans were sponsored to the UN SDG Campaign awards last year by the Sheriff Oborevwori-led government, where the United Nations commended the governor for his youth inclusion policies.
The international recognition, he noted, underscores the significance of the governor’s approach to youth development and governance.
Akpobi urged all young Deltans to expect more inclusion and development, register to vote, and re-elect the governor in the next elections.
