The Ihemba Women’s Football League, IWFL rounded off its 2025/2026 edition with Ihemba Queens of Imerienwe emerging champions, defeating Obike Girls 1-0 in the grand finale.
Founded by Ichie Ihemba Kelechi Eke, the league showcased local talents, promoted community spirit, and inspired young girls in Imo State.
The tournament featured five teams, with Ihemba Queens dominating the season.
It kicked off on December 15, 2025, with an opening match between Ihemba Queens and Obibiezena Girls. The grand finale, after weeks of intense home and away matches, reached its climax on January 2nd 2026. The final/ championship game was between Ihemba Queens and Obike Girls.
Jacinta Amadi scored the winning goal.The league empowered players, fostered unity, and promoted physical fitness.
The tournament has inspired a new generation of young girls in the participating towns, proving that with dedication, they too can take centre stage in sports.
Organizers plan to include more teams in future editions, aiming for a bigger and more competitive tournament .
The success of this season has left the players and organizers with a high level of optimism. The athletes are back in training and eagerly looking forward to the next edition.
