The Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, Dr. Oliver Ali Aba, has called on President Bola Tinubu and other elected leaders to ensure that Nigerians experience the full benefits of democracy.
Speaking with journalists on Monday during the Church’s 50th anniversary celebration of Episcopacy, Dr. Ali Aba highlighted the transformative role of Episcopacy in the Methodist Church and noted that many Nigerian leaders, past and present, have benefitted from the Church’s guidance and support.
“In no time, Nigeria will get well. But all of us, in one way or another, are saboteurs of the Nigerian economy,” he said. “Many Nigerian leaders have benefited from the Methodist Church. We have not let society down. So it is time elected leaders, including the President, deliver the dividend of democracy to Nigerians.”
Dr. Ali Aba said the 50th anniversary is not only a time to reflect on the Church’s past achievements but also a moment to recommit to holy leadership and position the Methodist Church for continued impact.
“As we celebrate 50 years of Episcopacy, we are reaffirming our covenant with God, recommitting ourselves to holy leadership, and repositioning the Church for a future of deeper impact. May the next 50 years be marked by greater unity, holiness, compassion, and transformative witness to God’s glory and the blessing of humanity,” he stated.
He further described the milestone as a turning point in leadership and followership, emphasizing courage, inclusion, and overcoming challenges. “Our celebration focuses on gratitude for past leadership, acknowledging challenges, and looking forward to continued faith and service,” Dr. Ali Aba added.
The prelate concluded that the jubilee marks God’s faithfulness and calls on all members to serve with courage, reinforcing the Church’s commitment to shaping leaders and society positively.
