Mavic Chijioke Okeugo is set to present ‘Age Series’, a solo exhibition of photographic works opening at Gallery 1957 from November 4–9, 2024, in Accra, Ghana.
Age Series brings together a striking collection of artistic portraits focused on elderly men and women. Through carefully composed images, Okeugo turns his lens toward aging as a subject of beauty, authority, and emotional depth. The works invite viewers to slow down and engage with faces marked by time, experience, and resilience.
The exhibition examines how elders are seen or overlooked within contemporary visual culture. Okeugo’s approach resists sentimentality, instead offering honest, dignified representations that emphasize individuality and presence. Each portrait functions as both a personal encounter and a broader reflection on memory, identity, and generational continuity.
Age Series contributes to ongoing conversations within African and global art spaces around representation and storytelling. The exhibition aligns with Gallery 1957’s mission to platform artists whose work speaks to social realities while maintaining strong aesthetic rigor.
Audiences can expect a focused and immersive exhibition experience, encouraging contemplation and dialogue around the meaning of age and the human stories carried across time.
Age Series will be on view to the public from November 4–9, 2024 at Gallery 1957, Accra.
