Pharmacist Ikeagwuonwu Chinedu Klinsmann, Director-General of the APC Digital Force, has commended the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for introducing an electronic membership registration system, describing it as a progressive reform that would strengthen internal democracy and institutional development within the party.

Klinsmann said the initiative, introduced under the leadership of the APC national chairman, Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, demonstrated the party leadership’s commitment to innovation, transparency and democratic growth.

According to him, political parties serve as the building blocks of democracy, and reforms within their internal structures often reflect the health and direction of the broader democratic system.

“Political parties are the driving wheels of democracy. When a ruling party such as the APC undertakes reforms that promote transparency and accountability, it sends a positive signal about the direction of democratic governance in the country,” he said.

Klinsmann, who is based in Stockholm, Sweden, said he remains actively involved in grassroots political engagement in Nigeria, particularly during visits home, noting that sustained mobilisation and sensitisation were essential for party growth.

He described the adoption of an electronic membership registration platform as timely, given the APC’s status as the largest political party in Africa.

“With members spread across the country in very large numbers, the use of digital systems is no longer optional. It is necessary,” Klinsmann said. “This initiative lays a solid foundation for gradual democratic reforms, including the future possibility of electronic voting within the party.”

He added that democracy is a process rather than a destination, stressing that digital reforms could help reduce irregularities by promoting transparency, accountability and real-time verification.

“In the immediate term, the e-membership system will help tidy up party records, eliminate bulky paper files that often go missing, and make verification of membership easier and more reliable,” he said.

Klinsmann also noted that the platform would enable the party to accurately assess its strength across wards, local governments and states, thereby improving planning, mobilisation and strategic decision-making.

He urged APC members nationwide to embrace the initiative by encouraging existing members to register and mobilising new entrants into partisan politics.

According to him, mobilisation efforts are already being intensified in the South East, with stakeholders and grassroots organisers encouraging citizens to move beyond tribal and primordial sentiments.

Klinsmann expressed confidence that APC’s performance in the South East during the 2027 presidential and National Assembly elections would surpass previous outcomes, attributing this optimism to sustained grassroots engagement and voter education.

He concluded by calling on party members across the country to replicate similar mobilisation efforts, stressing that strengthened internal democracy remains critical to the APC’s growth and electoral success.
