Southern Kaduna Group commends security gains, urges balanced discourse

A civil advocacy group, the Southern Kaduna Patriots for Good Governance, has commended what it described as improving security conditions in Kaduna State, while urging more balanced and constructive engagement on lingering security challenges.

In a statement issued in Kaduna, the group’s Convener, Mr. Edward John Auta, said the combined efforts of the Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Kaduna State Government led by Governor Uba Sani are beginning to yield measurable results in the fight against banditry and terrorism.

Auta noted that sustained military and security operations across the country have weakened criminal networks, leading to the neutralisation of several armed group leaders and the rescue of abducted persons. He said these developments are gradually restoring stability and rebuilding public confidence in communities previously plagued by persistent insecurity.

He praised Governor Uba Sani’s inclusive approach to governance, which he said promotes collaboration among government institutions, security agencies and host communities. According to him, the establishment of the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS) and the recruitment of nearly 10,000 operatives have improved intelligence gathering and strengthened community-based security efforts.

The group observed that key routes such as the Kaduna–Abuja highway, as well as the Chikun and Birnin Gwari corridors, have recorded relative improvements in safety, enabling increased movement for travel, farming and commercial activities.

However, Auta acknowledged that security challenges persist in parts of Kajuru, Kachia, Kaura, Sanga and Kauru Local Government Areas, citing recent reports of attacks and kidnappings that have raised public concern.

He said issues raised by various stakeholders, including Comrade Nasiru Jagaba, reflect genuine anxieties within affected communities and deserve sustained attention from relevant authorities.

While condemning all acts of violence and criminality, Auta stressed the importance of recognising ongoing government efforts, the sacrifices of security personnel and the critical role of communities in supporting peace initiatives.

He also referenced recent announcements by security agencies on operations against armed groups, describing them as significant steps towards disrupting organised criminal activity.

The group called on residents to continue cooperating with security agencies and urged Kaduna State and neighbouring states to strengthen inter-state collaboration to tackle cross-border security threats.

According to Auta, long-term stability in the region will depend on coordinated strategies, active community engagement and sustained institutional commitment. He expressed hope that public discourse on insecurity would continue to promote collective solutions aimed at protecting lives, property and livelihoods across the region.
