Jos – Senator representing Plateau North Senatorial District, Pam Dachungyang, has reaffirmed his commitment to peace, inclusive development and effective representation, amid rising political tension and the spread of misinformation.

Addressing a press conference in Jos on Thursday, the lawmaker explained that his legislative engagement is guided by a five-point agenda centred on practical representation and community engagement, women and youth empowerment, functional education and critical sector placement, peace and security, as well as legislative responsibility.

Speaking on peace and security, the Senator described insecurity as the most pressing challenge facing Plateau North and Nigeria as a whole, and disclosed that he has been engaging discreetly with traditional institutions, religious leaders and other critical stakeholders to find lasting solutions, stressing that security matters require careful and quiet handling to achieve meaningful outcomes.

He said intelligence reports of attempts by criminal elements to disrupt the fragile peace in the zone were promptly addressed, helping to prevent escalation.

Dachungyang expressed deep concern over attacks on communities, describing his visits to affected areas as disturbing and emotionally overwhelming.

He said the scale of devastation he witnessed compelled him to formally raise the matter at the National Assembly, contributing to the call for a National Security Summit to collectively address the country’s security crisis.

He strongly condemned the killing of innocent persons, warning that the shedding of innocent blood carries grave moral, societal and eternal consequences, and issued a stern warning to perpetrators and their collaborators within Plateau North to immediately desist from such acts.

Beyond security, the senator highlighted achievements in empowerment, education, sports, agriculture, health and power, and cited empowerment programmes that benefited over 900 women and youths through agricultural training, starter packs and financial support, alongside the facilitation of a Skills Acquisition Centre in Riyom Local Government Area to tackle youth unemployment.

He also outlined educational interventions, including the payment of examination and tuition fees for indigent students, sponsorship of national sporting events hosted in Plateau State, fertiliser distribution to farmers, health centre interventions in the 2025 budget, and electrification projects through the provision of transformers and solar street lights.

On legislation, Dachungyang reaffirmed his constitutional role in lawmaking, oversight and representation, noting that he has sponsored bills to upgrade key institutions in Plateau State and remains committed to advancing the welfare of Plateau North.

He expressed optimism that sustained peace will unlock development, revive tourism and restore the State’s standing nationally and internationally.
