The 2025/2026 edition of the Legbo Nations Cup in Ogoni, Rivers state has produced six exceptional footballers that are bound to commence a professional football in Europe.

This year’s edition of the tournament was won by Bubba Eleven FC, Wiiyaakara emerging as champions. FC Ogoni Utd claimed second place, while Tuabue Stars FC, Gure secured third in a soccer show-piece that showcased not just skill, but the heart and determination of Ogoni footballers.

The competition, now recognized as one of the premier youth football events in Ogoniland, combined thrilling matches with a talent scouting programme that has seen six young players selected to join professional clubs, a historic milestone for the region’s football community.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Chief Anthony Waadah, Gbenemene of Legbo and President of Ogoni Business Owners in America, expressed his pride in the players.

“Today, we celebrate more than winners and runners-up. We celebrate dreams realized. Ogoni youths are naturally talented, but without platforms like this, many of them never reach the heights they are capable of. My vision has always been to provide opportunities that go beyond the pitch—opportunities to shine locally and globally,” he said.

Chief Waadah emphasized that his commitment extends beyond football. “Whether in sports, music, entertainment, or business, I want Ogoni youths to know that their talents can be transformed into careers and legacies. This tournament is about hope, opportunity, and showing the world the greatness that Ogoniland produces,” he added.

Elendu Samuel Uchenna Eke, head of the scouting committee, described the selection process as both exciting and challenging. “It was not easy choosing just six players because the level of talent displayed was extraordinary. Every participant gave their all, but the players chosen have shown exceptional skill, focus, and character. Their journey to Europe is just the beginning of a story that will inspire many,” he said.

The six players who will now advance to professional football in Europe are: Jeremiah Essien, Etonday Sample, Augustine Junior, Barısıra Beeka, Barine Ambrose and Freedom Ebube Christopher

Reacting to their selection, the players expressed gratitude and excitement. Etonday Sample said, “I feel like all the hard work, the sacrifices, and the hours of training have finally paid off. I am grateful to Chief Waadah for believing in us. We will make Ogoni proud.” Augustine Junior added, “This is not just about football. It’s about representing our community and showing that Ogoni youths can compete anywhere in the world.”

The tournament also united the community, drawing fans from across Ogoniland. Spectators were treated to high-paced matches, moments of brilliance, and sheer football drama that left many cheering until the final whistle.

Chief Waadah concluded by saying “this is only the beginning. We will continue to create platforms for Ogoni youths—not just in sports but in all walks of life—so that every talent has a chance to flourish. Today, we’ve shown that with support, guidance, and determination, dreams can become reality.”

The 2025/2026 Legbo Nations Cup has not only celebrated sporting excellence but also created tangible opportunities for young talents to advance their careers internationally.
