The Alema of Warri Kingdom, Chief Emmanuel Oritsejolomi Uduaghan, has written to the Federal Ministry of Environment regarding the naming and location of the proposed Abigborodo oil field in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State.
In the correspondence addressed to the Honourable Minister of Environment and the Permanent Secretary, Uduaghan affirmed that the Abigborodo oil field, as identified by Navante Exploration and Production Limited under PPL 220, is correctly named and located. He noted that Chevron Nigeria Limited, the previous operator, recognised Abigborodo Community as the host community.
Uduaghan traced the historical administration of the area to colonial-era records, noting that Abigborodo Community has long-standing historical ties to the land. He highlighted that land ownership and use have been previously confirmed through official records, petitions, and legal processes.
The Alema emphasised that the EIA public display conducted by the Federal Ministry of Environment is an environmental assessment exercise and not a platform to revisit settled land ownership matters. He assured the Federal Government and relevant stakeholders that Abigborodo Community will support a peaceful and cooperative environment for the operations of Navante Exploration and Production Limited.
