The Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Rev. (Dr.) Yakubu Pam, has called on Christians across the region to embrace unity, steadfast faith and moral responsibility as Nigeria enters the year 2026.
In his New Year message, Rev. Pam thanked God for His sustaining grace throughout the past year, despite Nigeria’s economic challenges, insecurity and social uncertainties.
He noted that the Church remained resilient, offering prayers, comfort and hope to communities during difficult times, stressing that every preserved life and strengthened community stands as a testament to God’s mercy.
“As Christians in Northern Nigeria, we are citizens of heaven while actively engaging with the realities of our nation,” he said, noting that Nigeria continues to yearn for healing — economically, socially, morally and spiritually.
The CAN chairman urged believers not to lose hope in the face of insecurity, unemployment, rising living costs and communal tensions. He called on the Church to continue praying without ceasing, speaking truth with wisdom, promoting peace, and resisting despair and hatred.
Rev. Pam also reaffirmed prayers for leaders at all levels of government, emphasising the need for leadership anchored on justice, equity, accountability and the sanctity of human life.
According to him, sustainable national renewal would come not only through sound policies, but also through moral responsibility and good governance.
He further appealed for stronger unity among Christians across denominations, saying the nation’s challenges require collective prayer, service and a united Christian voice on critical national issues.
“We must be known for love that heals divisions, hope that uplifts communities, and faith expressed through service,” he said.
Encouraging believers not to withdraw from righteousness or surrender their moral voice, Rev. Pam expressed confidence that God remains at work in Nigeria.
Quoting Isaiah 60:1, he said: “Arise, shine; for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.”
He concluded by praying for wisdom, courage and grace for the Church in Northern Nigeria, as well as healing, justice and renewed hope across the nation.
Rev. Pam wished all Nigerians a peaceful, prosperous and blessed New Year.
