…Reaffirms commitment to merit-based education

Jos – Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, on Tuesday sent off 200 students awarded scholarships to study at Sanskaram University in India, describing the initiative as a major investment in human capital and the future of the State.

At a farewell ceremony for the students who benefited from the Mutfwang’s Legacy Scholarship Scheme, the Governor disclosed the beneficiaries will pursue courses in critical science-related disciplines including medicine, engineering, computer science, information technology and cyber security.

The ceremony, held in Jos, attracted government officials, parents and well-wishers.

Addressing the people, Governor Mutfwang said the scholarship scheme reflects his administration’s determination to reposition the education sector and reward diligence and excellence.

He added that more education-focused interventions would be unveiled in the coming months to expand access to quality learning opportunities.

Charging the students to remain focused and disciplined, the governor urged them to serve as worthy ambassadors of their families, Plateau State and Nigeria.

He warned against conduct capable of jeopardising their future, stressing that the opportunity was earned strictly on merit.

Mutfwang noted that hard work and dedication had distinguished the beneficiaries.

He assured the students of sustained government support throughout their stay in India, including welfare, monitoring, and regular visits to ensure their comfort and wellbeing.

The governor further explained that the selection process reflected inclusiveness, cutting across religious and social backgrounds in line with his vision of a united Plateau where equal opportunity is guaranteed.

Earlier, the State Commissioner for Education, Kachollom Gang, described the programme as unprecedented in the State, noting that never before had such a large number of students been sponsored abroad at once.

Speaking for the parents, Mrs. Hope Fwabong expressed deep appreciation, saying the initiative had opened doors for children from poor homes and widows, with the potential to transform many families.

Some beneficiaries, including Chindong Jepgwam and Maren Samuel, pledged to excel academically and make the State proud.
