No fewer than 100 pupils from public primary schools in Ijora, Lagos, have been trained in communication, teamwork, and leadership skills by the EGO Foundation under its Lead the Future programme.
The one-day workshop, held at Badia Primary School, brought together pupils from Badia, Olojowon, Irati, and other nearby schools. Through interactive activities, the children learned how to speak confidently, work in teams, listen respectfully, think critically, and take responsibility for tasks.
The impact of the training was evident beyond the classroom, as eight-year-old Ada, a participant, reportedly called a family meeting at home to discuss the fair sharing of household chores, applying the teamwork lessons she learned during the workshop.
Executive Director of EGO Foundation, Mr. Toluwase Olaniyan, said the initiative aims to expose children, especially those in underserved communities, to leadership development at an early age. He noted that early confidence-building helps children see themselves as capable leaders rather than waiting until later stages of education.
The programme was sponsored by Access Holdings Plc as part of its youth development efforts. EGO Foundation said it plans to expand the initiative to more public primary schools in Lagos and train teachers to sustain leadership learning through school-based clubs and classroom activities.
