ICPC, NYSC collaborate on integrity training for corps members

 ABUJA – INDEPENDENT Corrupt Practices And Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has renewed its collaboration with the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, to inculcate integrity training into the corps members to spread anti-corruption messages among the grassroots.
Vanguard gathered that NYSC did not invite ICPC to its orientation camp exercise nationwide again owing to the recent reform of camp activities which replaces lectures with skill acquisition programmes for its corps members, to empower and prepare them for future challenges.
The two bodies at a one-day interactive seminar for NYSC schedule officers across the federation in Abuja have agreed to include integrity training for corps members at the NYSC orientation camps in addition to skill acquisition programme of the scheme.
Speaking at the seminar, the Acting Chairman of ICPC, Ekpo Nta explained that skill acquisition programmes of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, would not yield the desire result, if youths lack integrity.
Represented by the Head of Planning, Research and Review Department, Mallam Bala Mohammed, the ICPC boss said it is the desire of ICPC that corps members should receive the requisite knowledge, skills and material to execute their functions of mobilizing and sensitizing their communities about the dangers of corruption adequately.
He maintained that the commission will make use of the Community Development Service, CDS, of NYSC to engage the corps members after the orientation camp exercise for further training on the reality of the impact of corruption and equipping with skill required to fight corruption.
The Director General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Okore Affia expressed satisfaction with move by ICPC, saying that it is better to reorientate the young one on the menace of corruption.
He added that NYSC would give its support to ICPC in its struggle against corruption in the country.
