HoR Rivers caucus leader, Dekor wins leadership award, dedicates honour Wike

The leader of the House of Representatives Rivers Caucus, Hon. Dum Dekor, has received the 2025 Leadership Award for Constituents’ Empowerment.

The award was presented on Wednesday in Abuja by the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness (CCLCA), in collaboration with Naijablitznews and Hellosis.

In his acceptance speech, Dekor dedicated the honour to his constituents and his political leader, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike. He thanked the organisers for the recognition and expressed appreciation to his constituents and Wike for the confidence reposed in him, pledging to do more in service to the people.

A citation read on behalf of the Director-General of CCLCA, Dr Gabriel Nwambu, highlighted Dekor’s political journey and impact. A graduate of the University of Port Harcourt, he began public service at the Khana Local Government Council before serving as an electoral officer with the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.

He was elected to the Rivers State House of Assembly in 2007, representing Khana II Constituency, and served as Deputy Speaker until 2011. In 2017, he was appointed Commissioner for Works under the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike, a role in which he earned widespread commendation.

Dekor was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019 to represent Khana/Gokana Federal Constituency and was re-elected in 2023. He currently chairs the House Committee on Host Communities.

The citation noted his focus on people-centred governance and listed interventions in infrastructure, healthcare, education, economic empowerment and community development across his constituency, including rural electrification, water projects, school construction, ICT centres, skills acquisition programmes and grants for women and youths.

According to the organisers, these achievements informed the decision to honour him with the 2025 Leadership Award.
