— As Momoh says Nigeria safe, open for business

ABUJA— A delegation of the United States investors alongside some Nigerian business leaders, have held a meeting with Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, in his office in Abuja.

The delegation led by Dr. Bethany Hall-Long, the immediate past Governor of Delaware in the United States, also had in attendance Senator Uche Ekwunife, in a landmark diplomatic and investment engagement.

Dr. Hall-Long chose Nigeria as her first international destination after leaving office. She arrived in Abuja with her husband, a delegation of American investors, Nigerian business leaders, and Senator Uche Ekwunife, who joined for the courtesy call at the ministry.

A statement by Osigwe Omo-Ikirodah, media aide to the minister stated that at the meeting, the former Delaware governor highlighted priorities for collaboration: economic development, humanitarian partnerships, food security, health systems strengthening, and other initiatives to deepen Nigeria-US ties.

She praised Nigeria’s openness and potential for global partnerships, expressing eagerness to foster mutually beneficial relations.

The visit countered politically motivated claims portraying Nigeria as unsafe for investment.

Dr. Hall-Long’s choice of Nigeria as her debut post-office trip, coupled with the positive interactions, serves as a powerful rebuttal.

Minister Momoh welcomed the delegation, calling the visit symbolic and timely, affirming that “Nigeria is safe, friendly, and fully open for business, tourism, and partnerships—far more stable than detractors suggest”.

He urged Dr. Hall-Long to share her insights with US policymakers and businesses, noting that while challenges exist, Nigeria remains vibrant and investment-ready.

Momoh outlined the mandate of the seven Regional Development Commissions under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which prioritizes grassroots growth and regional expansion.

He said: “The ministry is open to public-private partnerships, technical cooperation, and investments across sectors.”

He also spotlighted ongoing plans for modern ferry services in the Niger Delta to boost transportation, commerce, and coastal connectivity.

In attendance were Minister of State Uba Maigari Ahmadu, Special Adviser to the President Barrister James Ikhanoba, ministry directors, and senior officials.
