ABUJA — A civil society organisation, the Advocacy for Human Rights and Cultural Values for Development Initiative (AHRCVDI), has expressed concern over reports of the emergence of a group known as “Hisbah Independent Fisabilillahi” in Kano State.

In a statement issued on Tuesday in Abuja, the Executive Director of AHRCVDI, Comrade Sambo Jibril Jada, said the organisation was worried about the possible implications of the group’s activities on public order and governance.

Jada noted that the group’s emergence had generated public debate and called for clarity from relevant authorities regarding its legal status and operational framework.

According to the statement, the organisation believes that any group involved in security or moral enforcement should operate strictly within the framework of existing laws and institutions in Kano State.

AHRCVDI said parallel structures, if not properly regulated, could lead to confusion among residents and complicate coordination among law enforcement agencies.

The organisation urged the Kano State Government to provide appropriate guidance to the public on the status of the group and to ensure that all activities related to law enforcement and public order remain under lawful and accountable institutions.

It also called on relevant security agencies to monitor developments and take appropriate, lawful steps to maintain peace and prevent any breakdown of public order.

The group advised residents of Kano State to remain calm and law-abiding and to rely on recognised authorities for information and guidance.

Jada said AHRCVDI would continue to observe developments and engage stakeholders through lawful advocacy.
