Lagos Assembly urges Fashola to seize abandoned structures

By EBUN SESSOU
IKEJA—Lagos State House of Assembly, yesterday, called on Governor Babatunde Fashola to seize all abandoned structures in the state and convert them to hospital and health centres.

The Chief Whip, Mr. Rasaq Balogun, who spoke on matter of national urgency, said the abandoned structures in the state had become hide-outs  for miscreants to carry out their illicit acts, adding that there were structures that had been abandoned for years which had become places of abode for criminals.

He said: “There are several abandoned structures in the state and since the nation is facing a serious security challenge, all the abandoned structures must not be allowed to stay because they have become places of abode for evil perpetrators. The abandoned property should be confiscated by the state government and used for other purposes, such as hospital, health or recreation centres to improve the people’s lives.

Other members who contributed to the debate supported Balogun’s position.
