ABUJA – Kano politician and businessman Alhaji AbdulSalam AbdulKarim Zaura, popularly known as AA Zaura, has dismissed reports suggesting he plans to dump the All Progressives Congress (APC), insisting his loyalty to the party remains firm and unquestionable.
The clarification came in a statement issued on Saturday and signed by his Senior Media Aide, Hassan Sardauna, who said the rumours were not only false but deliberately manufactured to mislead supporters and unsettle the party in Kano.
“I want to categorically inform you that the allegations are not true. It is hearsay, it is unfounded. I want to inform you all that I and my camp have never thought of, and will never leave, the APC,” Zaura said.
He used the opportunity to spotlight Zaura’s long-standing commitment to party-building and his extensive contributions to APC structures across the state.
The APC chieftain said his investments in the party make any rumour of defection “inconsistent with reality”.
“If you are talking about loyalty and contributions to the party in Kano State, I am assuring you that we have paid our dues. There is only one person in the state who I can say has done more than us for the party, and that is former governor and former APC chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,” Zaura added.
He further recalled the sacrifices his camp has made over the years, pointing to Zaura’s decision to accept the party’s direction during previous elections despite his earlier political ambitions.
“Anyone, whether in government or not, no one has given his all more than us because he never did. The reason is that we contested for governorship but we were given the senatorial candidacy for Kano Central, and before then we contested under the platform of another party before we joined the APC,” the statement said.
He also listed material interventions made by Zaura in support of the APC, noting his financial commitments across all local government areas in Kano.
“We bought 44 cars for the 44 local government areas in the state and shared them, bought three again for the three senatorial districts and rented party offices for them, apart from individual gifts for countless people. In hospitals, we are there,” he stated.
According to the statement, Zaura’s philanthropic work continues to demonstrate his bond with the community, from social welfare to humanitarian support.
“Recently, AA Zaura bought infant milk and distributed it to babies not up to a fortnight ago. He invested in cultists and drug addicts of Kano origin by investing about ₦1 billion to rehabilitate them. Patients in hospitals have also received support through the offsetting of their bills. There was a patient who needed assistance which he provided, and another girl who got burnt was also assisted,” it read.
The document stressed that these actions underscore Zaura’s unwavering commitment to the APC, adding that his loyalty extends to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, and key party stakeholders across the state.
It said any claim that Zaura is preparing to defect is nothing more than political mischief.
“For anyone to claim AA Zaura is planning to leave the party is a mirage and unrealistic,” the statement read.
