Lack of basic first aid and health knowledge has been sited as one of the key factors leading to poor health outcomes in Nigeria and the sub-Sahara African region.

A lot of Nigerians are not aware of necessary steps that need to be taken in the event of sudden illness or emergency whether at home, work or school. Thus, Victoria Oyiya Health Foundation, VOHF as part of its commitment to its mandate on ensuring health awareness in Africa organized this health awareness event to catch the children young so we raise the next generation of health informed youths and adults.

The outreach themed “Save a Life Today” was aimed at promoting basic First Aid knowledge amongst teachers and pupils both within the school environment and at home.

The event was flagged off by Mrs. Patricia Bakle Chindak, the Head Teacher of Pace Setter Academy, Keffi Local Government Area of Nasarawa state. She commended the foundation for choosing their school for this health awareness event and prayed that the organization would continue to expand and succeed.

Miss Gift Bahago, the current Assistant State leader of VOHF in Nasarawa State, Mr. Anzaku and other members of the delegation team emphasized the importance of early detection and first aid in reducing morbidity and mortality. She noted that these factors can be prevented through knowledge of the warning signs and taking proactive steps.

The school received a free First Aid bag with medical supplies while VOHF partnered with BenZone foundation to provide educational materials to the pupils and students as well.

The beneficiaries expressed their appreciation for the initiative and gestures.

The Nasarawa State Leader, Zipporah Zakka and one of the members of the VOHF delegation, Pastor Abel Adigbo, concluded the event by extending their gratitude to the donors and partners of VOHF for making the outreach a success.

He also called on corporate organizations, NGOs and individuals to join hands with VOHF through donations and partnerships to continue its quest in building a healthier and more health-informed African society.
