Gombe denies alleged Boko Haram attack

GOMBE— Gombe State Government has denied news making the rounds that the attack on some youths currently undergoing rehabilitation training at the permanent orientation camp of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, at Malam Sidi, Kwami Local Government Area of the state, Monday night, was carried out by members of Boko Haram.

At a briefing at Government House yesterday, Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, Youth Leader in the state, Alhaji Kabiru Jauro, said the attack was aimed at sabotaging the efforts of Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo in making the jobless youths productive.

He said: “Actually, what happened today (Monday); I will call it sabotage, because I see no reason why the children we want to train and make productive in the society would be attacked. There is nothing like Boko Haram in this issue.”

He said some unidentified enemies of the state perpetrated the dastardly act in which two persons were shot and two others wounded.

“I do not believe the sect would go to this point. These boys are innocent. They are not politicians. They are not from the military, Police, civil service or whatever. So why would anyone attack them? We know the perpetrators. They wanted to create fear so that the children will run away to defeat the aim of the programmes. We know them, but we want the police to do their investigation.”
